Forget the ePublisher side of things for now. I'd like to know if you can
link/xref/whatever from a point INSIDE an FM file to a point IN
That's pretty cool. Does that work for Word to Frame, too? Xref to a marker in
Frame?

Yes, you can author in XML in FM 10. DITA XML in particular. You can create
PDFs from DITA XML files by saving your ditamaps or bookmaps to FM
files, and then create a PDF. Or you can create a PDF from your ditamap

of DITA, authoring is easy once you get the hang of it; however, you
need to figure out which tools allow you to create PDFs, online help,

a quick test with FM 9/Acrobat Pro 8, and Acrobat Pro automatically recognized

I haven't used XMetal, but we do use FM9 to author DITA XML, and
ePublisher (XML adapter) to create online help. We author XML files and
ditamaps in FM9. To create PDFs, we save our ditamaps as composite FM
books, which works fine. After the books are generated, we apply
templates to the FM fil
