Mariah,
have you tried 35mm macro lens photography?
that way you could even take a quick picture and then crop the area you don't
want to print in the darkroom.
best wishes,pablo.

Put your 16mm in the negative carrier of a photographic enlarger and mask
it as you like. Then you're ready to strike prints from it without any
digital intervention!

David Bordwell has a simple but very effective setup for making stills from
prints with a 35mm camera, though I don't know its precise composition. He's
made an unreal amount of amazing looking stills over many many years, still
doing it in 35mm last I knew. Someone else on this list might

I used to put the 16mm film in an enlarger to make prints.
However, the quality is really not all that good because when film goes
through a projector the grain, which is different for each frame, kind of
vanishes because it's only on the screen for 1/2 of 1/24 of a second. The

Recipes for Disaster had a good sounding solution - photo enlarger pointed

judge the correct shutter speed.
I tried it on my DSLR and it looked pretty good.

Hello
My suggestion-
I use a slide duplicator lens. The lens is about 8 inches long and
screws into my slr camera. There is a slot for a slide/ I actually
have 16mm slide-holders (for 110 slides when presented in a 35mm slide
projector).
After selecting a 16mm frame- I hold it up to the sky
I do not have experience with a DSLR and slide duper- After some research-
a flatbed scanner seems to be the best choice for the digital route-
I have embraced the slide-duper technique as an alternative to digital-
and as an approach to enlarging 16mm stills in my darkroom.
