The "fdisk -I da1" failed with SCSI parity error, so I took another look at the manual for the 9GB drives and noticed that the J-4 pin block (12 pairs of pins where SCSI Device ID's are set) on these drives says Pin 11 is a "Disable SCSI Parity Check" jumper. I added a jumper on pin 11 on both 9

I was initially hung up on the boot disk issue as well - everything in the handbook applies to a data-only drive as well, except the part about dumping the filesystem, etc. I presume your disks are uninitialized. I suggest a look at the actual gmirror manpage, it has more & better examples, and
