The only thing uname will give you is the currently running kernel.
The update must not have changed the kernel.

Not all updates include kernel updates, some are just userland.
If you are running a GENERIC, unomdified (from CD) kernel, this will be
updated in the process. freebsd-update shows you a list of updated
files, and will also show /boot/kernel/kernel if this is updated. You

Hello,
I have updated my server yesterday from 5.5 to 6.3 using the cvsup
classical method.
Everything went fine but I forgot to deploy an SMP kernel :-(
Is there a way to deploy a 6.3 SMP using freebsd-update method (which
is fantastic).

section on how to fix). I am not that familiar with the freebsd-update
utility as I (and I suspect most FBSD users) use the CVS, patch,
recompile method of keeping the systems up-to-date

It explains how older versions of the freebsd-update utility cannot
update files that have been changed or recompiled locally. Newer
versions can, but require manual intervention. (i.e. configuration
options need to be set.).

mergemaster -p -D /thejail
make installworld DESTDIR=/thejail

I have machine wich is build from sources (FreeBSD 6.2p3 , RELENG_6_2).
Can I use freebsd-update on that machine straight away?
