Hi Paul:
Great. I REALLY LIKE VFD! I use it all of the time for doing this
sort of thing. :-)
Glad you have it working. Now, you can replace fdconfig.sys and
customize the boot image any way you want...
You can also use the FDOS SYS command to initialize a 1.44 MByte
image (run it from the
Well, silly problem-
It turns out that I forgot to close the image when it was done being
edited in VFD. So, it was locking it so I couldn't burn it. Works like
a charm now. Thanks.

Hi Paul:
I usually do the creation from Windows. Here is the batch file I
use to run mkisofs for my bootable FreeDOS CD's:
cd Alpha3.0

isolinux/boot.cat -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table .
cd ..

Well, I did that (using the program you suggested), but now when I run
makeiso I get "error 4" without any other details. The change I made
was very simple- just made 9 the default menu choice. I did this first
as a dry run.

I've already downloaded the FreeDOS LiveCD/Bootable CD, made changes to
the ISO and had it load and play the game (it's not MAME- like I said,
something like KnoppixMAME or AdvanceMAME, where it boots directly to
the game), but I just have to remove the menus first. So, I'll try
doing the chan

Paul, you're using a cdrom for MAME. CDroms use no-emulation, floppy
emulation (read-only) or harddisk emulation (read-only) traditionally.

The VFD program is Virtual Floppy Drive 2.1. See

This really neat Windows program allows opening up multiple
floppy disk drives, with drive letters. You can specify or

Hi Paul:
Well, the FreeDOS Beta9SR1 CD is set up to use ISOLINUX and
MEMDISK to boot a 360K floppy disk image called FDBOOT.IMG.
This floppy disk image contains a file called "FDCONFIG.SYS"
that sets up the initial menus and then invokes fdauto.bat.
What you want to do is to create a new bootab
A video game Live CD that automatically boots and then runs the game.
Something like KnoppixMame or AdvanceMame, but using FreeDOS instead of
Linux.
I've got it working (the game recompiled fine under DJGPP), but the
question I have is for the startup menu questions. I want users to just
