1. Yes, you can certainly do volume-based morphometry with FreeSurfer.
2. Neuroquant is a commercialization of one relatively small piece of
FreeSurfer. None of the current developers of FreeSurfer have any financial
interest in NeuroQuant

Hi Gonzalo,
you should run your data with the longitudinal stream (if you use fs 5.0
update mri_robust_template and recon-all first), see infos on :
http://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/fswiki/LongitudinalProcessing
After processing, you can compare the volume measures in
the /stats/aseg.stats file

I found the results (volume of V1) with mri_label2vol in FS 4.5 is different
the one in BA.stats from FS 5.o? Do they use the same method or not? Which
one is more reliable? Thanks.

Hi Meng,
I think one was based on ex vivo MRI and the other was based on
histology, so on different subjects would account for some variability.
They are both quite reliable.

I am interested in counting the number of gyri in a specific region of the
brain. I am aware of the Local Gyrification Index feature, but am hoping to
get precise numbers of gyri. Is there any way to do this? (By the way, I do
not have Matlab)

Hi Allison
I guess you could draw a curve on the surface and count the # of local
maxima in the first principal curvature (which can be generates using
mris_curvature -w...)

I have been analyzing my qdec data in version 5.0 and have some interesting
although somewhat confusing results. Basically I have run a very simple
analysis with DODS and DOSS. My discrete factor is group and my covariate is
age, about as simple as can be.
When I look at the results
