I use gentoo, more or less happy till now. Did not have big problems, even
compiling stuff for my own (xine with vdpau support, vdr etc). Though takes
time to take care of system because of compilations.
Long live freevo!

If it is still active.
I switched to new camera (12Mpix instead of 4). Files are jpegs 2-3MB
(before under 2MB), stiched panoramas - bigger. Freevo started behave
strangely - crash to command prompt when switching from one directory to
another. I also had habbit to put music player in background
As idea - I use udev scripts to mount/unmount usb devices, may be this
approach works with SATA as well.

Sure :)
I have gentoo. Scripts are for USB, though when I tested them with udevadm
trigger, it mounted hdd partitions as well, because of non effective match
part.
1. In /lib/udev 2 scripts:
script usb_mount
#!/bin/sh
[ $ACTION = add -a $DEVTYPE = partition ] || exit 0

Fabrizio, Adam many thanks for great ideas!
Fabrizo's workaround helped. Adam's idea makes things easier, thanks for
that!
What helps automatically is -demuxer lavf, it just takes much longer (vs
modified VPID) to get picture, but it works without modifying channels.conf.
It is with MPlayer
Hello,
Sorry, may be not very right place for question, but still.
My TV provider here is broadcasting h264 streams. I'm trying to watch them
with mplayer.
If I'm tuning to DVB channel directly from DVB card, channel is treated as
mpeg2 and of course I do not get anything:
$ mplayer -screenw
For me IMAGEVIEWER_REVERSED_IMAGES = 1 works fine

Evan,
Thanks for the tip! It worked, I do not have clue how did I missed this ;)
Probably assumed that svn allways have some fixes in it and installed it
over emerged versions without giving a try.
So I emerged what gentoo portage offered and it works fine for now:
kaa-base-0.6.0

Did you try the mplayer -dumpstream blah-blah from command line? I recently
got similar problems - fxd and no .ts file, and discovered that mplayer
claims it cannot find channel I want to record (but I have it in my
.mplayer/channels.conf). Restart box and it works ok.
But may be it's just me.
To encourage - for me DVB-T allways worked with mplayer, never used xine for
that. Try DEBUG_CHILDAPP = 1 in local_conf.py and see what you get in logs,
mostly helped me to get things straight.

To let you know you're not the only one ;)
Seems I had this same problem before (posted it on list 2007/11/29 and
2007/11/30 threads Help with Remote and Skipped recordings in svn
rel-1), but never got it solved. Moved back to mainline freevo for time
being, since too often recordings were
Kernel 2.6.23 Gentoo
Technisat Airstar2 (DVB-T) - works with kernel drivers
Technisat Skystar HD (DVB-S2) - needs multiproto drivers, though did not get
S2 to work, but may be didn't tried too much.
Avermedia Hybrid (A16R) (DVB-T+analog) - works with kernel drivers, just
have to follow link in
Unfortunately patch didn't help with recording. Already today 2 missed
recordings.

Hello,
I'm running svn rel-1 and kaa svn on Gentoo kernel 2.6.22. After moving to
this setup from 1.7.3 recordings started to miss. This seems to happen
randomly, cause when I tried to catch this situation it didn't happen :)
At normal recording I have these 2 messages in log:

Doug,
Works now. I will test out if it helps with skipping recordings randomly and
report back.
Recording worked rock stable in 1.7.3 but on SVN it started to skip them at
random.
Thanks!

Hello Doug,
I do not have this remote, but just an idea. After applying your patch
to kaa (see Recordserver crash on rel-1 SVN) my remote stopped working
as well. I had to remove patch to get it back.
Actually Freevo did not respond to keyboard as well while with patch,
so may be it is not the
What I did:
- removed /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/kaa and
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/freevo and /usr/share/freevo/
- ran python setup.py clean in both kaa and freevo svn directories
- ran python setup.py install in both again
Didn't fix anything, still getting error in log. Actually it
Oops, forgot to add - it's rel-1.

I'm using Thermaltake Mozart (big one)

Quite big case (I even squeezed Bigtyphoon cooler in it), has VFD with

choose PS separately.
Check this,
I used to have -fs -zoom -aspect 4:3, may be it can help.
I noticed that some DVB channels are broadcasted not in 720x576 but 544x576
resolution and obviously expanded on screen.

As far as I remember from posts you should remove and add back clock in
local_conf.py. Mine is like following:
plugin.remove('idlebar.clock')
plugin.activate('idlebar.clock', level=50, args=('%d %B %a %H:%M'))
