I am trying to install a 256 Mb RAM on the lower slot of a
PowerBook Wallstreet (second generation, I think), which already has a
128 Mb on the upper slot.
But when I switch the machine on again, Apple system profiler
(either on OS 9 or X) only detects 256 Mb... Until now, I
I had to have the trackpad on my Pismo replaced at some point because the
cursor would become crazy, even after I would clean it. Now, it's a bit
better. However, from time to time, it seems that the trackpad isn't fixed
properly to the top case as when I press it, I can feel it goes down a bit,
This is my configuration (128 bottom/256 top) on my
300Mhz WS - works fine.

What you are describing, has been explained to me as a natural process of
DVDs. It was explained to me like this. DVDs can have multiple layers. At
some point, the laser has to switch layers. It is at this point that the
pause occurs. The fact that it's at the same place every time suggests
Given that a few different drive mechanisms were available in these
modules, do you know if the several dozen dead drives (sddd) are of
the same model? Apple system profiler should cough up the pertinent
info under the devices and volumes tab. (guessing, my drive is at
home)

Furthermore, could it be that the corpses are the result of attempts
to defeat the DVD region system? Several hacks are out there
Doubtful- I've cracked just about every drive I've owned due to my gf being
from australia.
It's really pretty harmless if you get your update from a reliable
The majority of the dead drives are the LG (DRN8080B), which are pretty
worthless units, in general..

I had seriously considered doing that but then remembered that nobody had
done that for my 48th. So there! (Or, maybe we get 'em on our 50th?)

Asked my Dad while he was still 69 what he wanted for his 70th. A Jaguar
XKE, was his reply, and I'd be willing to take delivery early, he added
helpfully. So I sent him one, Matchbox-sized of course, and asked him if the
color was OK.

I need some other input. My Pismo, 9.1, 400Mhz, 384RAM, is pinking in the
corners of the screen, and has been since the beginning of the year. It
hasn't gotten too much worse, but... The local Apple shop advises moving to
a new iBook, rather than replacing the screen. I'm not against either
Any comment from other Pismo owners?
I've been using this Pismo for over two years. No problem with track pad at
all. Much better than pad on 540 or 190cs. The 190 broke and I had to go
to using a mouse.
I love my Pismo and wish that some one would specify how I could fit another

Any comment from other Pismo owners?
I bought my Pismo/500 when they first came out, and I've had no problems
at all (except the key-impressions on the screen). The only bad thing
is, she's missing three of her rubber feet. I use my PowerBook
everyday. She's on for 10 hours a day, survives a

Definetely not. If you go to the warchalking website, you'll see that ONE
man has signed out his airport network this way. I don't think this will
stick around

Hard to believe that no one has wrote anything about this yet.
I downloaded it as soon as it was available (I wore a hole in my Refresh
button) and was very surprised that it installed, synced, and worked without
any glitches! Excellent conduit.
