8500 not installing

Put a new PRAM battery in it. Got it to install OS 8.1 without any problem. Still won't install 9.1. Same error as before. The installer script doesn't recognize the computer. Curious thing. The Apple System Profiler sees the 8500 as a 7600 series. Is this right? Is the 8500 counted as a 7600 seri
