I love my PowerBook, but recently I've been having problems with the
headphone jack. The male end of the cord doesn't seem to make a full,
snug connection. If I press on it, sometimes I'll get full sound.
Otherwise it goes in and out.
Any ideas? Suggestions? Preferably cheap or free, since I'm

OK, I've seen what others have ponied up. I'll toss this one out:
xlr8yourmac.com has a review database that you can peruse. I did this. The
latest reports show that there is a fantastic OSX/iTunes/iMovie/FinderBurn
to hang
on finishing session. Getting so frustrated!
Thanks for any advice!

The problem, Lynn, I think is that no one is quite sure exactly what
noise you're describing. it could be a number of things:
1: A squealing HDD bearing. Bad, means incipient failure of the system.
2: The internal fan coming
some research on drives, etc.
Thanks for help!

HI,
I hesitate to ask this because I do not want to know the
answer.
My PB has been chiming or dinging about 8 times every so often.
Not at startup. No startup issues. It usually happens when
I have it on but am not using it.
Does this signal anything bad?

My hard drive has been replaced by Apple but I still am able
to get the SN from System Profiler.
Lynn
As some have suggested, System Profiler may help, but
not if you've changed out your hard drive (as I have).
I believe there is a serial number inside the case,
but I couldn't say where
Look in your Apple system profiler. It will give you the serial number.
I bought one of these adapters and it has the model number listed
as being recalled. However, since it didn't come with the powerbook,
it isn't registering on the website. Wouldn't my adapter be included
in the recall as
will be forever grateful.
Thanks!
