Hi Richard,
Did you download the mp3 file, or did it attempt to play in Windows
Media Player?
You should have downloaded the mp3 to your hard drive. If not then your
media setting must be setup to attempt to play files from the source
which is not how that file was meant.
In the future to avoid
Hi Phil,

I suppose that would be true if you use the y axis as front and back
instead of up and down which would be typical of most 2D games.
However, in side scrolers you are only dealing with four cardinal
directions or angles, 0, 90, 180, and 270. In a game like sod which I
believe deals with 15 degr
I also would like to mention that the idea someone mentioned of different
sounds as you go up / down a ladder seems a bit strange to me . I
would say in all honesty, that's not realistic.

Hi Thom,
When I tried to listen to the trailer all I got was was a new window that
did nothing. I had to paste the URL in WMP in order for it to play. Was I
doing something incorrect? thanks for the help.

Hi Thom,
Better late than never I always say, Here is my two cents worth. Sounds are
really great. I do like the vocal accompanying something that you pick up.
Maybe this is something that can be turned off later as a person becomes
familiar with the game. I think that has already been recommend

Hi Thomas,
So by walking by the microphone you probably got several steps of different
volumes!
The way I record my walking is to tie a string to the digital recorder and
hold it in front of my feet about a foot off the ground.
This way all the steps are of the same volume and I don't have to wor
Hi Thomas,
You could also say that Montezuma's Revenge is a first person shooter that
moves you left and right and also forward and back.
Just imagine...
You are standing sideways on a narrow ledge above a drop off, and you can
walk sideways until you reach a rickety wood bridge ore rope, then yo
The original Monty Demo released by James had music while you were
going through the temple. Not spectacular, but it was there and it
was appropriate. Sort of an orchestral, spooky, fantasy-epic feel to it.

Hi,
Your right. This is only an early preview. Things will be added, fixed,
worked on as time goes on.
As for the original ambience at one point i almost put it back in, and
then after only a few minutes of testing I know I liked the new stuff
better.

Hi,
Well, please remember that Monty is fully a 2D game. I would have to end
up having to add a 3D array, and drawing surfaces 3D. That would defeat
the purposes of recreating the original game.

Hi Ryan,
One thing I live out in the country so there isn't the usual sounds of
city life. The digital recorder was placed on the ground and I walked by
it. Third recording digitally rather than on tape reduces clicks and
pops from the tape player. Fourth I did it after dark when there was

Hi Mich,
I do now understand where you are coming from, but we are actually
talking about two different genres of game styles.
SOD is a FPS, First Person Shooter, and in those games you have left,
right, forward, and back movement.
In Montezuma's Revenge it is a side-scroller. Those games only h
I personally, like having both. The actual sound of picking up
something, and the game announcing what was found.

Yeah, thanks for insightful answers. You know, the Alchemy version ladders
seemed perfectly different to me when walking up or down. The trailer seems
to sound the same always, and if I didn't know the layout of the level, I
couldn't tell whether you were going up or down, but that really doesn'
Tom,
If you recorded those on your driveway, how did you get past all the other
backgrounds of suburban life, and where did you position the microphone so
as to get the best possible sound?

It does clear up what you mean. One of the whole points of this game was
to capture the original game aspect. Have you played the side scroller
