I recall once that a smith made a twelve-foot ceremonial sword in
Japan. It was, of course, fully capable of being used, but really. A
twelve-foot sword? Imagine trying to block incoming blows with that,
even if you could lift it and swing with any finesce at all.

Take into consideration too, that back then, Japanese people were extremely
small- just look at the armor displays in museum, armor worn by famed
Samurai- most of these look to fit people under five feet tall lol.

If you want to leave the list,
a nodachi
that wsas five feet long doesn't seem too impossible to me.

Agree with all you pointed out- match my own knowledge on the matter. Most
big heavy swords we see in fantasy titles today were mostly just ceremonial
when they were used at all- that Japanese nodachi for example- it's really
too unwieldy to be of any real use.

Hi Milos,
Yep, a 20 kg sword sounds like allot of weapon to be wielding in a prolonged
battle. Especially since, like you said, it is usually wielded in one hand
with a shield in the other hand.
I do believe that a standard sledgehammer is 4 or 5 kg.

I bought some fish oil,
A typical knight's broad sword weighed about 3 pounds. So, I'm guessing
with would be 1.4 kg?

Hi Jim,
Yeah, no kidding
Hi,
Yeah, something like that. I'm not an expert on ancient weaponry, but
a lot of those weapons and armor, especially the iron weapons, were
extremely heavy. Nights, for example, were really too heavy for combat
on foot and that's why they rode horses because it was the only way to
move a 200
And that's why it wasn't uncomon for them to fall off the horse and break
something vital- ending up dead that way lol.
