RE: [Ganglia-general] Multicast issue: High bandwidth usage

2004-09-07 Thread Adesanya, Adeyemi
Hi Vineet. I'm not a big fan of multicasts either. Right now I generate ganglia metrics on around 150 nodes. Gmetric is also used to produce a large number of custom metrics in addition to gmond's built in metrics. Multicast packets are sent to every single host machine on a router/subnet.

[Ganglia-general] Can someone please confirm safe_mode works?

Hi. I know some have you have responded already, but I just need a definite answer from someone who has personally ran the webfrontend with safe_mode on. Sounds like it should be a cinch, but our web server expert is having trouble configuring the PHP safe mode directives related to uids, gids,

Hi Id. Check that your conf.php points to the correct location of the rrdtool executable. Also, one mistake I have made in the past was not realizing that rrd files are NOT cross-platform binaries. Stick to one OS in the case of your web server and gmetad. In the past I used a mix of Solaris

[Ganglia-general] Ganglia and SNMP?

2004-04-29 Thread Adesanya, Adeyemi
Hi There. I'm considering the use of Ganglia to cover the monitoring of 'Black Box' dedicated network devices via SNMP. I realize that Ganglia is geared towards distributed clusters but the potential gains could be huge if monitoring of abstract devices could be intergated into the Ganglia

[Ganglia-general] Iostat metrics

2004-03-12 Thread Adesanya, Adeyemi
I'd really like to get some I/O metrics for filesystems that are consistent with what 'iostat -x' produces. This info can be retrieved from the Solaris kernel using the kstat interface or in the case of Linux, /proc/partitions . Has this work been done already? Thought I'd better ask now to
