Hi Vineet.
I'm not a big fan of multicasts either. Right now I generate ganglia metrics on
around 150 nodes. Gmetric is also used to produce a large number of custom
metrics in addition to gmond's built in metrics. Multicast packets are sent to
every single host machine on a router/subnet.
Hi.
I know some have you have responded already, but I just need a definite answer
from someone who has personally ran the webfrontend with safe_mode on. Sounds
like it should be a cinch, but our web server expert is having trouble
configuring the PHP safe mode directives related to uids, gids,
Hi Id.
Check that your conf.php points to the correct location of the rrdtool
executable. Also, one mistake I have made in the past was not realizing that
rrd files are NOT cross-platform binaries. Stick to one OS in the case of your
web server and gmetad. In the past I used a mix of Solaris
off. Next step is to try safe_mode .

Hi There.
I'm considering the use of Ganglia to cover the monitoring of 'Black Box'
dedicated network devices via SNMP. I realize that Ganglia is geared towards
distributed clusters but the potential gains could be huge if monitoring of
abstract devices could be intergated into the Ganglia
Hi.
Has anyone built and ran Ganglia on Redhat Enterprise 3? I'm hoping it will be
fairly straightforward since I have no trouble with Redhat 9.0. Only one way to
find out...

I'd really like to get some I/O metrics for filesystems that are consistent
with what 'iostat -x' produces. This info can be retrieved from the Solaris
kernel using the kstat interface or in the case of Linux, /proc/partitions .
Has this work been done already? Thought I'd better ask now to
Thanks to those of you who responded. Seems likely that RH Enterprise 3.0 will
be my main Linux platform in future.

Hi There.
I'm wondering if any of you can offer advice on:
a) how to determine the maximum total size of rrds for a cluster nodes using a
single gmetad daemon. I know this depends on the number of metrics...anyone got
a decent formula?
b) A solid way of providing remote access to the rrds so

You can try the mute and deaf options
Hi There.
I plan to monitor many nodes grouped into clusters and feed these clusters to
gmetad that will store the data and serve it to the web frontend. I am not too
keen on having monitored nodes also function as collectors/concentrators. I
would prefer to have all the gmonds in a single

Hi There.
I'm making progress with the ganglia 2.5.4 web frontend but I'm having trouble
getting the various pull down menus to function correctly. Eventually I
realized that the generated URLs do not contain 'index.php':

Hi Steven.
Thanks for the pointer. I managed to disable/strip the built-in solaris metrics
and now gmond runs in non-root!!

Hi Steve.
Thanks for responding. Perhaps an alternative may be switches to disable those
metrics that require gmond to run as root?
