When I do an update layout with xgsch2pcb I get a syntax error at line
20.
This is what is at line 20.What is wrong with this other than there
is nothing inside the brackets. I tried deleting it from the .pcb file
and it gives the same error.

Hello, and jepee!
I have got it.
Yes I have self-drawn symbols in my design. They are correct, but I changed
the drill size of one of if it. Instead of breaink/changing/assembling/saving
I just changed and saved the file. This seemd to cause an error in the file.
After updating to an old revis

It could be one of your footprints is a .pcb file instead of
Hello at all,
I just drew my actual schem with gschem. No I want to route it with pcb.
After running gsch2pcb (no errors there), I open pcb an load the created *.pcb
file as mentioned.
On loading I get the Message

Yes that's exactly what I did. I had previously viewed a footprint in
PCB in order to measure its dimensions and then I must have
inadvertently saved it, which turned it into a PCB file.
Thanks for the help in getting to the bottom of this.

Thanks
This is a fresh pcb file created using gsch2pcb i.e. I have not
intervened in any way. Is there something that could be wrong with the
schematic to cause this? The pcb file generally looks quite jumbled with
Element definition not all in one place.

Hi Guys,
PCB is detecting a syntax error in my .pcb file and failing to open it.
The output from PCB Log is as follows...
Looking for default_font in .
Can't open ./default_font for reading
Looking for default_font in /usr/local/bin/../share/pcb

What I may have done is to look at the footprint using layout in the
directory where PCB stores them. Then "save as" with the rest of my
footprints where I keep the ones that I'm using. I must get myself up to
speed with cp to re-copy the original footprint and all should be fixed.
Many thanks Ia
It looks like you tried to edit the footprint with pcb, but saved it
as a layout rather than as a footprint. Check your footprint file on
disk.

Here are the top few lines from PAL.pcb. It was generated using
"gsch2pcb -v -s --use-files --elements-dir ~/Artwork/Elements.fp
~/Artwork/Controller/Sheet01.sch Sheet02.sch Sheet03.sch Sheet04.sch
Sheet05.sch Sheet06.sch Sheet07.sch Sheet08.sch Sheet09.sch Sheet10.sch
Sheet11.sch Sheet12.sch She
Unfortunately not. I generated a new PAL.pcb file and that should have
loaded with load PCB. It had the same problem. I must have a silly in
my schematic or one of my dot.fp files. Some thing like two identical
refdes or a wrong something in the dot.fp. I'll have to give it a good
eyeball test

Hi,
using PCB version 20080202 I did a fair bit of my layout and was asked
to make some large changes to the schematic. After updating the
schematic "gschem version 1.2.1.20071231" I ran gsch2pcb a few times
after fixing my share of typos. When at last I came to load the new.pcb
file to p
