I'm working on a new DHCP server for our IPTV deployment and I was
wondering if you guys had any suggestions for something that would give
me some stats for my dhcp server (active leases and whatnot) in a easy

Not specifically a Linux question, but it's Linux related. I use PuTTY
to ssh from my windows workstations to my Linux boxen. When I am using
VIM (no holy wars please =) my numpad doest not work. It works fine at
the command line, but once I get into VIM it stops working. Any ideas?

it has saved me from banging my head on the wall over weird dns and

apt-get install gnome (installs gnome and all required stuff, X, all of
it) I usually start off with apt-get install fluxbox and get something
small on there before I go for gnome or kde just so I can make sure my
gfx is working.
apt-cache search (searches for packages, duh!)

Did you install from the 16MB stage 1 image? I used the stage 3 install
so I pretty much had a basic system going. I'm not sure exctally how
long it took for mine to get compiled, because I started X/gnome
compiling and then went to bed. =) It was done when I got up the next

As far as I know, which isn't very far =), you just need a switch with a
fiber module in it or possibly a fiber transciver so you can hook it up
to the network. A guy I work with is a fiber jedi, I'll ask him if I see
him today, but I think I am right.

When I am working in windows, I use a text editor called EditPlus. I
like this one because it has built in ftp functions. So I can open a
file directly from an ftp server and save it right back to there,
