Re: Fwd: JSR 105 Impl @ Apache (was Fwd: [Fwd: JSR 105: Public Review])
Short-Term: WSS4J needs Both XML-ENC and XML-DSIG. Currently xml-security (in CVS) has support for both XML-ENC and XML-DSIG. So we can implement WSS4J without any problems. Long-Term: IF we need to implement JSR 183 in WSS4J (JSR 183 needs JSR 105 (XML-ENC) and JSR 106 (XML-DSIG)) then XML-Security needs to be enhanced to implement both 105 and 106. Thanks, dims --- Shantanu Sen [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, I am interested in contributing to the axis projects for incorporating security for web services. I am a little confused about how this effort overlaps with the other proposal that you forwarded: http://nagoya.apache.org/wiki/apachewiki.cgi?SecurityProposal Are these 2 complementary of each other? Does the proposed WSS4J - which says that a working prototype is already available - use Apache XML-Security library? If so, then will the JSR105 implementation replace that (since in the XML-Security java section page it says that it does not confirm to JSR 105). It will be great if you could clarify this. It is *not* that big of a change. All one generally needs to do is commit all of one's changes and do a fresh checkout. Two things to note: If you have a large number of existing files modified in an existing checkout and you are not prepared to commit them, all that you need to do is to update the various CVS/Root files with the new name. I typically use Perl to do this, but there are existing tools that can help, for example: http://cvs-tools.sourceforge.net/cvsed.html this is easy on UNIX to do but more tricky in windows - it would be really nice to have such functionality to do switching CVS in windows tool (i would be happy to find out if there is alreayd such tool?!) Alternately, if you can commit your changes, but simply want to obtain a fresh checkout using a directory name other than the one on the server, use the -d parameter on the cvs checkout command, for example: cvs -d :ext:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/cvs checkout -d xml-axis ws-axis i did not try to do this but i believe that it will not work as CVS repository location is encoded in CVS/Repository filse and CVS will not allow to overwrite old locally checked out repository with new reranmed? After either of these are done, you can continue to do cvs updates and commits normally. other possibility is to copy files from old location to a freshly checked out project from new CVS/Root and ignore all CVS/* files during copy (using cygwin find and piping through xargs). so there are migration paths but still i see no reason to not leave lot of time for people to make this change ... thanks, alek -- If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough. Of course, this is the matter of the decision of WS-XMLRPC Development Team and WebServices Project's PMC members. Re: Use Forrest (Re: Updating all ws project sites to use the mirrored downloads)
Tetsuya, I will back you up under one condition. You need to get a current committer of say Apache Axis to start a VOTE for standardizing Axis web site. Then when majority VOTE's ok, then you (and the committers) for that project can start the process of forrestizing that particular project. This should NOT be forced from above. For example, you will have my +1 for Apache Axis site when there is a VOTE in the axis-dev mailing list NOT on the general mailing list. The reason is in the long run the committers for a project are responsible for the web site of their project. Thanks, dims --- Tetsuya Kitahata [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, Sanjiva, All Thank you for putting your precious plus one to me :-) I think the standardization of the website build would be important for us (ws-proj). This is what the other projects appear to be doing. Is this the best approach? How can I make use of the ws-site skin? My understanding is that the author would have to sign http://www.apache.org/licenses/software-grant.txt and fax it to +1-410-803-2258. Fwd: moving JAM to org.apache.jam

In Geronimo we would like to offer support for annotations in the GBean service layer, but that would mean using a 1.5 VM. I don't see us raising the minimum required VM to 1.5 until J2EE 1.5 comes out (2007-2008?). I only see this desire to use an annotation like system expanding as more users adopt java 1.5, so if JAM can provide an upgrade path I for one would be very interested. Right, I have exactly the same problem in xml-beans, so that is what JAM is designed to solve. BTW where is the current documentation for JAM? The links on http://www.pcal.net/jam don't seem to be valid anymore. Hi Dain. My apologies, I'm a bit still trying to get my online house in order. I just refreshed the docs - you can see them at http://www.pcal.net/jam/docs/index.html I should have the binaries and sources available for download very soon as well. Thanks, -p -dain -Original Message- From: Patrick Calahan [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, March 23, 2004 15:27 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Fwd: moving JAM to org.apache.jam Hello. I'm a committer on the xml-beans project. As part of my work there, I've written an API called 'JAM' (Java API for Metadata) that is becoming a useful technology in its own right. JAM is distinct from xml-beans - it is used by xbean's java-to-schema compilers, but JAM does not use xbeans at all. I built JAM to solve a particular set of problems that I have relating to metadata and JSR175, and I believe that many other java developers are going to need a solution to those same problems very soon. I already have some consumers of the API who don't care about xbeans - they only want the services that JAM provides. Accordingly, I am trying to give it some more visibility. One thing I would like to do is give it a better package name; it currently is org.apache.xmlbean.impl.jam Ideally, I would like it to be org.apache.jam but I'm not sure what Apache's policies are on using top-level package names - I figured I'd better talk to someone about it first. I bounced the idea off of the xmlbeans-dev list last week, and everyone there seems ok with it (email appended). Ultimately, I really think JAM should be a separate project. I'd love for it to be an Apache project if possible, though I'm not sure what I should do to start that process. If you want to read more about JAM, I've temporarily posted the docs and some white papers here: http://www.pcal.net/jam Thanks, -p - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Bootstrap JSR 181 and JSR 109 Implementations.
Ias, You forgot Sandesha (WS-ReliableMessaging), Addressing (WS-Addressing) and WSS4J (OASIS WSS) etc :) But yes, the idea is to build an alternative to WSE 2.0 from MSFT and JWSDP from SUN but one that can fully interoperate with them. Yes, there will be an integrated version. The current plan was that the complete stack will be part of Geronimo :) But it would be good if there's a equivalent of JWSDP to make it easier for folks who are just getting their feet wet in web services. -- dims On Thu, 10 Jun 2004 11:48:49 +0900, Ias [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: First of all, I'd like to thank dims for giving me a great chance to introduce them to Apache Web Services. I'd also like to thank Professor Park, Daeyon and Jongjin Choi in Tmax for allowing and helping me to contribute to Apache. I have to admit that they still have a lot to improve, but believe that they will be good starting points for those who want Java web services in progress everywhere. Yesterday, a piece of idea hit me that how about making Apache Web Services Pack like Sun's JWSDP?. Actually web services consist of various technologies, but Apache doesn't have an integrated form of them. For instance, Axis 1.2 - SAAJ 1.2 and JAX-RPC 1.1 Axis J2ME 1.0 - JSR 172 J2ME web services WSM 1.0 - JSR 181 web services metadata EWS 1.0 - JSR 109 enterprise web services JaxMe 1.0 - JAXB 1.0 jUDDI - JAXR 1.0 (I'm not sure) and UDDI registry client/server Xerces 2.6 and Xalan 2.5 - JAXP 1.2 Tomcat 5.0.X - web container could be candidates for the package. Once users download and install AWSP, they can find it very useful to learn and run web services with it. Along with AWSP 1.0, I have a dream of a set of web services early implementations like Axis NG - JAX-RPC 2.0 Xerces NG - JAXP 1.3 Beehive - WSM(JSR 181) 1.1 and JSF 1.0 (I'm not sure) Tomcat NG - JSP 2.1 The issue is JAXB 2.0 standing for a brand-new XML binding technology, which both JaxMe and XMLBeans cover. I hope we can start to discuss it after JAX-RPC 2.0 and JAXB 2.0 early drafts are open around JavaOne 2004. BPEL Anyone? (Fwd: Apache Agila : BPM engine)
Ports Manipulator Here we got it, I guess: Business Process Management ? Sounds cool! What is it? BPM is the [IMO] overused, general term for a whole host of technologies and systems to automate business processes. In this case, it's a small execution engine and simple services that process 'workflows'. A workflow, or business process, is a set of activities and tasks that are connected to complete a larger task. For example, processing a loan application may take may people many steps, and a workflow system allows that step sequence to be constructed and executed. it will be easier to explain when I get the code in there. I'm offline this weekend, but we're working on moving the code to teh Apache license, doing the paperwork, and will be bringing the code here ASAP. geir Endre - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Geir Magnusson Jr +1-203-665-6437 [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] __ Do You Yahoo!?
