Here is what I had to do:
1. Enable SMP and ACPI in the kernel.
2. Select Pentium 4 as the CPU type in the kernel (not sure if this is
really needed but can't hurt).
3. Enable Hyperthreading in the BIOS.
Please note that a CPU having the "ht" flag list
