I would suggest openbox. It looks and performs better than fluxbox or
blackbox, IMHO.

I'm very happy running with Fluxbox. Worth noting that it is easy to run KDE
applications without using the KDE window manager and desktop. I happen to
like Kmail and use it on my desktop under KDE and on my laptop under Fluxbox.

Anything is faster and less resource consumptive than kde or gnome.

Yes, 'emerge blackbox'. Well, just about anything is going to be more
