Kview colors are off

For some reason, anything I view with Kview appear to be using a 16 color palatte. But if I view the same image with electric eyes, its fine. What would cause this? I find no settings. Also, I can't figure out why an image file launches Kview. My mailcap has the image file pointing to ee %
