I have had a T3 for a few years now and am pretty happy with it...with
the exception of no built-in wifi. It's pretty powerful and has done
a great job of serving my needs so far.
In addition to the traditional calendar / task management I find the

Greetings, all.
I've continued to lurk but it has been a while since I've had need to
post here. However, I do now turn for suggestions.
I have a file with a lot of commands. These commands are encapsulated
in double quotes. Within the double quotes are several segment parts
which are defined
I was just reading some press releases for the upcoming Callisto

Ben, just to retain focus on the scope of my reply, the wiki post and
his references are related primarily to using Java for game
development. Just as with "traditional" ( usually C++ ) this is a
math-heavy realm and generally speaking many game players usually have

First, I agree that the laptop mentioned above is probably
underpowered for modern Java development. I'm fairly happy running
Eclipse and other Java-based apps on my systems that are >= 512MB /
1GHz, but haven't done much on anything smaller for a few years. For

Ok...sorry for the cheezy tag line.
I turn to you all in desperate hope that someone can offer some aid in
a few issues I'm having with Wine. I have talked to a few people and
been doing a LOT of Google time and reading but it seems for so many
people Wine "just works" now days. Once again, I'm
D'oh. Sent this to Ben only. Silly gmail.

Thanks for the extra tips, Ben. I have seen some complaints abo
I am having a strange behaviour in Xine which I hope someone here can
help point me around to a solution.
I have two machines, a laptop with a DVD player / CD burner drive and
a desktop with a new HP DVD burner. Both are running Suse 9.3 and
both are running the exact same build of xine and all i
I use TWiki for some small-team collaboration and it is serving us
fantasticly. Dragon skin is pretty minimal and the skins are easily
customized.
You may also want to check XWiki. It's a Java-based solution
developed by someone that used to be a TWiki fan. Very active mailing

Ok...I have come to the conclusion that a USB solution in my price
range is probably not going to work under Linux. The devices I am
finding all appear to need Win-only software to function and often do
not even appear as an attached device. I found one discussion of the
Hauppauge USB solution bei
Ok...I have my DVD burner working great and this week I'm going to
start playing with some of the authorizing software that's out there (
QDVDAuthor and DVDStyle mostly ). About 50% of what I want to archive
and share right now is already digital ( photos and short clips taken
w/ my Cannon A80 ).
Hello, all.
I hate to throw another hardware recommendation question out there, but... :-)
I have checked the HW Compatability HowTo and it is pretty hopeful.
"Most, if not all, ATAPI and SCSI DVD-ROM and writable DVD drives are
supported." Assuming that's correct ( and now days I think it's
Thanx! All of those are actually great responses and give me
somethings to keep in mind when I talk to them.
When the tech first hooked us up I asked if he would have to come back
out when we go w/ the static IPs, and he said "no"...so I didn't think
to inquire further at that time. I really wis
Just to clarify, I haven't ordered the static IPs yet. I will be
doing so on Tuesday when they reopen for business. I'm actually not
sure yet how this will even be configured physically since I haven't
spoken to a rep.
I understand that the IP address I currently "have" is actually the

First off, Happy New Year, all!
A couple months ago I switched to Worldpath DSL from Metrocast cable
and have generally been VERY happy ( faster up and down and none of
the anoying drop-outs Metrocast gave me ). The also give me the option
of picking up five static IPs for just a few $ extra per m
Great pointer. THANX!!!
I went to use it on the http://www.awprofessional.com site and they
are actually running an extended sale right now. Purchase between now

What about the software side of the discussion. Assuming a basic

I'm looking to put together a more automated strategy for home use. I

Woo hoo!!! Thanx much. That's all it was. I didn't
find alsamixer very intuitive to "turn on" the earphone output ( I was
adjusting the volume but it remained "off" ) but it let me see
immediately that was the issue. I opened Kmix, clicked, closed
and done.
Thanx for the suggestion to both of you. It is ALSA. I will
try out alsamixer next time I am up in that environment. I am not
very familiar w/ ALSA ( it's always "just worked" for me in the past
) and didn't really know what tools exist to exercise the system
more directly.

I have already been trying to search google and hardware reports on
this but with no luck. Any pointers are greatly appreciated.

Today I had my service swapped over from cable to DSL. When I hit

I'm actually starting with TWiki ( www.twiki.org ) right now. Setting
up on a Linux box behind Apache2. Documentation is good and from my
experience ( very wiki limited ) it is meeting my needs. Revision
history, authentication, role based access, etc.
