I don't know how gtkspell compares with libsexy, but in most distributions they are patched to use enchant instead of aspell. I know enchant doesn't replace aspell, but that what happens: the library (gtkspell, libsexy etc) can effectively use hunspell, ispell, aspell, *spell...
