Hi everyone,
from a number of discussions during the last two or three weeks I am
getting the impression that a number of people don't bother to read the
docs accompanying gnucash, whatever the reason. Personally I suspect
that as long as the clicking works people tend to think they're getting
Release has been uploaded to gnucash.org, and announced! Enjoy!

I'm curious... 1.3.7 appears to have changed the register by swapping the
"deposit" and "payment" columns. I suspect I'm far from the only person in
the lamentable position of making rather more payments than deposits; thus
this change just added a keystroke to almost every entry I make. Is
Just downloaded the 'new' 1.3.7, installed and booted. First thing I
noticed - the "open" icon on the toolbar is gone
Now to open an account file, I have to click on 'file' and then 'open'
(or use the keyboard - but then I can never remember which keystroke
does what).
Is this on

I can appreciate the reasoning. If we are voting I still vote to restore
the 'open file' icon. I never found the two icons confusing - let the mouse
dwell for a few seconds and the icon explanation box pops open with the
explanation of the icon, thus even first time users can easily tell
CVS has been updated.
New Stuff:
+ Applied Rob Browning's patch to break out g-wrap.
NOTE 1: Before you update, remove src/guile/gnucash.h
You can also delete lib/g-wrap, lib/g-wrap-install,
and lib/g-wrap.configure.
NOTE 2: You will need to install the g-wrap
I vote that the open icon stays gone. I found it potentially confusing, and
I never used the open file button.
BTW, when I installed GNUCash, I created a GNOME menu item for it, and added
the name of my database as a command line argument, thus completely removing
the need to open a file

On the other hand, if I could get a "sort order" option on the
reconcile
window so that I could make it match the ordering on my bank
statements, I
would be just overjoyed...:)
I would suggest that
a) reconciled items ordered before unreconciled items
b) unreconciled items be ordered by transaction date
c) reconciled items ordered in order of clicking on them
i.e. As I read down my statement I find the next item
The impression I get from reading the help to the Import Dialog is that
the mappings
from Quicken Categories to Gnucash accounts is that the order of choice
is as follows
1. Saved Mappings from previous sessions
2. Similar Accounts from GNUCASH tree
3. New Account

Food for thought:
I was talking to someone about on-line banking gnucash. I hadn't
thought about ti much, but a large part of on-line banking is
reconciling statements against what the bank has. Now, many 'online
banks' use QIF export as a way of sending statements to users. Sooo
