Daniel, When I tracked my mortgages, I kept the balance in a liability account and then charged the interest to an interest expense account. The Escrow funds went into an Asset account tied to the property, and expenses, such as taxes and insurance, were charged against the escrow asset account wh

Thanks Chris, This is a neat way to do it too. I like that it reflects net worth accurately (reducing asset artificially should work out same as reducing equity artificially). I think my only concern is the expense account doesn't reflect reality. Also cash flow (delta of asset accounts) will be

Hi Daniel, I apologize if this is a duplicate - I sent it yesterday, but I didn't see it show up in the subsequent emails. This is similar to the "liability" approach. But it works better in my case because all the numbers I (and others) want to see are grouped together in the assets section of

Michael, Michael, Lifelines. Wow. I learned a lot about the importance of not atomizing genealogy data and so losing the context from Tom Wetmore in the list discussions about the Gentech model when that came out. He was also a big help in shaping FamilySearch’s gedcomX standard 12 years ago.

I guess I don't understand what you mean by offset your mortgage. For the other things, things such as gifts and tithes, they would go into a liability account against the expense category you choose for them. When you pay / make the gift, you would transfer from your assett account (checking,
