When you restart gnucash it should re-open the file you had open last
time. Is it not doing that? If not then what does happen when you
start gnucash and *exactly* how are you starting it?
Also which version of gnucash are you using and what operating system?

files are kept and search them by finding the last file used and
entering it. How can I close the file so that when I return I can go to
