I strongly suspect the "old dried up brake fluid" that "looks like white
powder when rubbed" is aluminum oxide from water getting in i.e.
corrosionon.
Brake fluid shouldn't leave a residue, certainly not a dry powder.

Brake pressure loss over a period of time, can be due to
the caliper seals grabbing the piston and pulling it back
further than normal when the brake is released.
I had this problem on my GTS front brake .
If i bled the brake, one or two weeks later the lever would be soft again .

Just a thought, don't the FJ1200's have a heat problem
on the inside two cylinders, or at least the
beginnings of one? Wouldn't the increased output make
this worse? I would prefer a 1300cc Genesis motor
