I run MS dot-net 2.0 on all my w2kpro clients. Support may have ended, but
Win Updates still works each month. When Windows Update stops, I will
upgrade to XP. May update sooner, however with the new platforms... :)

XP64 was a bit of a waste of time, but Vista x64 can cope with pretty much

I have been using a ViewSonic VA721 17" flat panel. I assume that its'
aspect ratio is 4:3. I use it at a resolution of 1024x768 (which is its'
native resolution). It will do other higher resolutions also.
The replacement (new) panel is a 20" wide-screen flat panel. Its' native

Highly recommend that you run LCD screens at their native resolution

panels I've used will magnify, but not shrink. Since the pixels on a

You do realise that a panel with 1050 pixels on the vertical axis
won't actually be able to display 1200 pixels of height? if it'll even
take the signal it'll have to randomly lose detail from somewhere.
why not just output 1680x1050 (which is 16:10 btw, not 16:9) to it???

Scott,
Thank you. Yes, the plan was to run at the native res. Unless stuff is just
too small to read!
The panel will connect to my Avocent Switchview 4-port kvm switch initially.
I am still digging into my video card(s) to confirm that they can do the
new native res. I suspect visual trouble w
I agree, use the native 1680x1050
And BTW, Viewsonic says the VA721 is
"1280x1024 native resolution
Incredible image detail for sharp text and graphics."
I thought 1024x768 sounded low for a 17 inch panel.. :)

The "stuff too small to read" issue is a big problem, IMHO! I had to
turn on "Large Fonts" on my father and grandfather's computers, which
makes a lot of webpages / applications look wrong, window contents not
fitting quite right, etc.
I would really love to have an OS that was resolution i
JRS,
Well yes, but when I run the ViewSonic at its' NR, the stuff is just too
small and hard to read. I am not quite ready to start using the MS
Accessibility tools either. LOL!
I have enjoyed 24 months of perfect video from the ViewSonic. I suspect

The only really compelling reason to upgrade I've heard is for gamers
who want to be able to take advantage of DirectX10 which ONLY runs on
Vista.
Actually, the only reason to upgrade is Vista 64 which supports above
4GB of RAM. I am running 8GB, and fumbling my way though the learning
curve

The new Dell E207WFPc is here and installed. WOW!
Full screen desktop w/o bars. Text appears a bit bigger overall.
Excel spreadsheets now show more real estate (good!) and the text
appears to be stretched just a bit horizontal. No vertical change that I
can see.
Got a funny feeling that I will ne
Glad to hear it worked out. I switched from my trusty old 19" CRT to

I have "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0" installed on my WIN2K_SP4
box.Normally, the .NET service is manual & stopped.
I went into Services and started it manually - it ran for a few seconds,
completed its work and stopped normally. That's about all I can tell you.

Jim,
Same here. I have the same observation. I do notice that more and more
apps/stuff require dot-net so I installed it in preparation for some future
addition. I assume that whatever I put on the machine will find the Net

I will take XP almost any time over Vista, but we are running into a
serious issue with 3.5GB of usable memory in XP.
Many consulting customers would lover to go with 8GB of memory, but

vista they cant.

Harry,
I do understand this new rush toward massive amounts of installed memory.
