Well the TivoHD is pretty AWESOME! Note that I looked into it, and for
whatever reason the tuner on the Series2 is CRAP for SD and it will look a
lot worse than your cable box (I don't know why; it just does; plenty of
posts to confirm this).
So going to the TivoHD made that SD stuff look better,
I am not blaming HDMI directly. Just the entire mess that doesn't allow
equipment to work together.

I REALLY REALLY want to uses HDMI. I just can't get it to work as it should.
My cable box won't work with my receiver. My new HD4670 doesn't want to
output audio via the HDMI. I am chatting online with Comcast as I type, and
I don't think they have ANY idea of what HDMI is for. The rep is asking if
Which I switched, I was amazed at the reduction in cable runs. Now my
stuff is clean & neat. Before it was a nightmare to go back there.

Actually, the HDCP that's the problem and that's in the various
components that need to handshake. I don't think you can blame HDMI for
this.
My stuff works and works well.

For all the great things about HDMI, it can cause some headaches. The
main culprit is HDCP. Unfortunately, not every "handshake" goes
smoothly, and you could be faced with slow switching speeds, a screen
filled with static, or

Each component works fine on its own.
--DVD player works via component cables (and not when hooked up via HDMI to
anything).

Yes.
I was excited to purchase an HDMI capable

I can't hook up my Comcast DVR because it complains that the route is not
HDCP compatible, which it is supposed to be. Same problem with me DVD
player.
