I have a newer AMD 88X board that doesn't work with the default Xorg GUI, but does work with the alternate Xvesa, at least as of version 2014_04_28. You might try Xvesa (Alternate graphics server in the boot menu) on the newer version and see if that works. In either case, it makes secure erase a
