every one tried in the newer version had some kind of hw conflict
with the older laptop and would not load.
Got the job done, slick sw when it works.
was ready to load hdderase and give that a try.
magnetic drives were easier to wipe.

I have a newer AMD 88X board that doesn't work with the default Xorg GUI,
but does work with the alternate Xvesa, at least as of version 2014_04_28.
You might try Xvesa ("Alternate graphics server" in the boot menu) on the
newer version and see if that works.
In either case, it makes secure erase a breeze.
