[H] AMD Fan Noise ?

Any one know what the db is on AMD stock fan/heatsinks ? Model in question is a 6000 x2, sink has thermalpipe tech on it. Thinking of upping the fan and not sure it would be worth spending $30/40. Looking at A thermaltake Silent 939 k8 think 19db Thanks Fred -- Tallyho ! ]:8) Taglines below !

I've been re-bulding my older machines (with AMD socket "A" CPUs in them), using "vintage" NEW MBs, AND upgrading the old AMD retail stock fans... I was amazed at the difference in the sound... (YMMV)... I did not even get the "best" (or expensive) fans... As a matter of fact, with socket "A", t

Fred, I purchased the Thermaltake Big Typhoon for an AMD 64 3700+ San Diego that was routinely overheating with the stock AMD cooler. With the Big Typhoon, I routinely ran at 25 degrees C at idle, with high cpu usage, it ran about 35 degrees, and if screaming on a hot summer day, maybe 40 degrees.

I had a real screaming in an older AMD XP3200+ system that would rattle your bones. Searched far and wide, but you are right, quiet upgrades are few and far between. Finally found a source for Evercool HPA-C715 Super Silent Turbo Cooler Heat Sink and Fan. Took a chance and found it to be quiet and

James, What is your opinion about using the ThermalTake BT in mid-tower cases where the m/b lives perpendicular; the cooler hangs out in the air and torques the mounting? (so weight is a bid deal to me, not the mounting!).. Have studied the specs. I now use ThermalRight SLK-800U(s) on my AMD

Duncan, I have an Antec SX1040BII File Server Tower with the ThermalTake Big Typhoon mounted on the board perpendicular like you are asking. It is somewhat of a pain to install. You NEED a large case to use this HSF. It is HUGE and fills my case. But with the backing plate and screw down bolts, i

James, Just an ask. You can blow this off. I use Lian-Li PC-6x mid tower cases. Fully understand the "YMMV". Fully understand your geography and temp business. Just thinking ATM. Barton and TBird temps are really OK 4now. The HS's are now about 6-8yrs old. So, I suspect I am just wondering. Damn,

Duncan, To add to the mix, most socket A motherboards do not have the required mounting holes for the Big Typhoon. I had what was a screamer setup about 4 years ago with a barton XP3200+ that had a LOUD HSF, but no mounting holes. Somewhere in the house I have 3 other socket A boards, none of whic

James, Agree. Yes, I do get it. But, after 8 years, I've winnowed my m/b's down to ending with all of them having the (4) magic mounting holes! Even if 1 generation behind where you are. Can play if necessary. As you've shared; might not be necessary! More pennies for the xmas fund! It is al
