I've got a machine which has IE7 installed (Help/About says IE7) but when I go to Windows Update it tells me that the browser I have isn't compatible, and that I should upgrade from IE5 to either IE6 or IE7. There is no IE7 uninstall in Add/Remove programs, and there is no %windir%\IE7 folder
