I also like Aviva's idea of varying the convention every few years.
I do not believe that the cost of CAJE is evidence that having our
convention on a college campus is not less expensive. Comparing CAJE to
AJL is like comparing apples to oranges. CAJE is a much larger
organization than ours.
Baltimore would be a great venue. although at the moment I can't speak
about the expense. The Pearlstone may not be big enough. Many suggestions
have been made about using a college campus. Univeristy of Maryland,
College Park has a Kosher dining
facility that may be worth looking into.
I'm taking everybody's comments and making a shaken-not-stirred cocktail:

Just a thought--
Has AJL ever considered holding the convention at a resort? The JCC of
Chicago has a resort, Perlstein Resort and Conference Center, in the
Wisconsin Dells that is strictly kosher year-round. The cost of the room
(about $100/night) includes three kosher meals. I don't know
One of the issues in deciding where to hold a Convention is finding a
city with enough AJL members who are willing to volunteer to put it
together. So far, we seem to find these volunteers around the larger
cities which tend to have more expensive accommodations. Another
consideration is Kashrut.
I am grateful that these sentiments are being expressed. I'm just starting
out my career in librarianship and have to pay for activities such as
conventions on my own. There are a variety of reasons why someone may not
have the funds to attend an AJL conference, and the proverbial ball field
