Hi Charles - your control tissue may be autolyzed. Try using a well-processed
control tissue. If that's not it, make sure that your control tissue is being
completely deparaffinized and that it is being totally covered with the stains.

We had an unsuccessful embedding run, using Embed 812 resin (an Epon
replacement, from Electron Microscopy Services). After curing in the oven, the
resin blocks came out “gummy” (flexible), perhaps due to a carryover of water
in the paper labels. Would it be possible to re-embed the tissue,

We have always stored fixed specimens of various sizes in plastic Nalgene
bottles, because they are so resistant to chemicals. However, we're recently
realized that the bottles grow very brittle with age, and can "explode" into
numbers shards when squeezed slightly. I think it is a result of

We recently switched most of our cell blocks from agar to Histogel,
works great. We use small disposable embedding mold, put the specimen in
the bottom and add the histogel about half way up the mold, let it
harden, pop it out and put it in the cass. Also cuts much better than
agar.

You can get Sharpies and highlighters in at least 7 different colors. We
color code the pathologists (Dr's Red, Blue, Pink, Orange, Purple, Green,
and Yellow.) The Sharpies and highlighters are distributed in the
appropriate departments, and the slides and paperwork get a quick mark of
