Hi Melissa
I'm also in NY, and do something similar - we have an SOP with basic workflow
and guidelines, then have attachments with specific protocols and instructions

Each of our techs is responsible for fully facing their blocks and getting a

incomplete cross section, etc), they can order a Technical Recut rather than a

We tried it out, and found that our specimens were apparently TOO paucicellular
for even the cellient to make decent cell blocks - after a few months of
trialing, we sent it back. Our director had been very hopeful, and was
disappointed. Oh, it was also expensive because of the required consumab

Hi Cassie
How often is this happening? We have done it this way, with no ill effects on
the processor, but it comes up maybe once every few months - if you have to
reprocess tissue daily or weekly, I could see it adding up to a problem. We

Hi Charles
I've had very good luck in the past with Poly Scientific's Gomori's retic kit,
which is ready-to-use (no ammoniacal preparation!) and very reliable. I haven't
used AMT's. I wonder if anything changed in the transition to StatLab
ownership? Making the ammoniacal generally seems to be t

Hi all
We are getting ready to purchase a new H&E stainer/coverslipper, and are
considering the Sakura Prisma Plus (tape) and the Leica Spectra (glass). Does
anyone have good or bad feedback on either instrument, and/or tape v. glass?
We've always had glass, but of course the coverslippers need
ir attention as well.

Hi Melissa
This is true, and a source of my neverending frustration with NYS Office of
Professions. Stephanie Shulman (stephanie.shul...@health.ny.gov) is a good
person at NYS to get clarification, but she will reiterate the same.
NYS has explained to me that "histotechs don't exercise judgment"
Morning everyone
I got a couple of inquiries about my LIS. We use IntelliPath from NetSoft;
we're a physician-owned lab with separate clinical and pathology labs. They
were able to customize logic for us to make sure IHC and SS get billed
correctly without manual intervention 99% of the time. We
Hi Dr Cartun
That was our worst-case scenario, but our LIS was able to build logic so that
it will convert 88342 to 88341 after the 1st, for each specimen (rather than
case). It's been working well for the past 6 months or so...
