I spent quite a while looking at this and unfortunately they have made
some quite unfortunate design decisions with the project, which make
it mostly unsuitable for standard hosting.
This is mainly due to its reliance on dbus which is a Local only
protocol meaning that remote management without
I have only experimented with it on Windows and I don't even know what
dbus is, but if its no good then its unfortunate.
If anyone is interested there are instructions on how to use the
server here, including dbus if it is going to run at a linux machine.
Re: Mumble
Last I heard they where ditching Dbus, and there's some fairly nice FREE
control panels out there for mumble hosting.
I intend to start hosting mumble servers as soon as they've ditched dbus :-)

Oh I hope they do! I really don't want to be bogging the voice comms hosting
boxes down running local control panels due to the inadequacies of dbus.

How many people could fit on a server with a 500kbps upstream?

I'm not quite sure, but with a limited upstream like that I'd use another
server to host the maps / textures / etc.

is it 500kbps, or 500KBps?
Makes a huge difference.
If it's 500kbps - mine would die at 4.at 500KBps, probably 16-20 if
not more.

Yeah, setting up an sv_downloadurl to stream in custom files from
a webserver / remote server is going to be a must.. 500kbps is only going to
max out at around 62.5KBps, so loading files of significant size to your
clients will take a very long time.. As for the number of players, I would
say
