You can ignore it, it is a FreeBSD *feature* (the particular socket
API's we are using have weird return values in the emulation layer).

Alfred,
I'm still getting the following error during the startup process:
net.cpp (896) : Assertion Failed: 0 == iRet
net.cpp (899) : Assertion Failed: 0 == iRet
I don't know if it can cause problems. It looks like the server is running
fine. This error is already an old one. It has been in a f

Looks good :) Will test this version on 3 machines today (2 AMD's and a dual

We have released an update for the beta. This release fixes the
secure/insecure problems people have been having on AMD CPU's and
attempts to fix the CPU usage spikes some people have seen (feedback on
this please).
Run the hldsupdatetool with the "-beta swapbeta" parameter to get it.

As server admins, we either find out the hard way when these exploits are
used on our servers, or we find out on lists like this. I would rather find
out here, be made aware of the problem and know that it is being addressed

not sorry for saying something that *I* personally feel should be

The guy who reported the bug seems to get it. It's not like I called
him an asshole or anything, grow up.

I don't want to enter the argument about whether or not to post exploit
details on this list, I merely request that you make sure to email me
directly with exploits like this that you find so you can be sure they
get my attention.

Ehm, that is the same as Alfred was telling.. I can read tho...
Call it irresponsible, or not. At least i try helping detecting these
things. I could have just ignored it, like it has been for months.
This has been public for a lot of months. It came by on irc a while ago.

Alright, enough is enough.

the bigger picture, I.E. requests are ignored or unanswered, I would

ok, i will...

I'm just firing from the hip here, but couldn't you just build a

Your lousy sys admin is obviously no techie either. He didn't need to
downgrade your kernel to change the frequency, and leave you open to
all kinds of exploits. They release patches for a reason. I'd
recommend you upgrade.

Hiya, which is the remote exploit? (might be handy just so people can check
if it will be an issue for them, as some people need to get others to update
for them).

I think some of the latest kernels (or dists) like fedora core have the
kernel HZ dropped from 1000 down to 250 (which would give a solid 125fps).
Not aware what people like Debian are doing atm, but might be worth people
checking before updating
Updated the kernel? How ? :D
