Hi:
I would like to know why when starting any steam dedicated server in linux
sometimes it generates 2 processes and other 4 using same kernel version 2.6.15.
Example:
SERVER 2:
s2 16496 0.0 0.1 3656 1860 ?SFeb21 0:00
Is one running VAC and the other not?

Hi all,
I reinstalled my system the other day, did not play for a while till this
evening.
Somehow the normal in-game sounds I installed using Amxmodx did not work.
So offcourse I checked the server first, cause I am using sv_download url
which allways has worked since I
put it in the
Would someone mind explaining why there are actually multiple processes
in the first place? My srcds servers seem to have 2 processes per
instance where my hlds servers have 4. Both are running in secure mode.

Wow ... pretty lame to reply to my own post :)
But I have found the problem and know how to fix this:
Open Internet Explorer and do the following:
Tools - Internet Options -Programs - Reset Web Settings
And tataaa ... the sounds work again, CS downloads them when connecting and

They are probably just threads which appear as unique processes though
they share the same address space of memory.
If they occupy the same amount of memory they are definitly the same
process.

Please include LESS information in your next post. I am quite sure that in

As a matter of fact, I will take a scientific wild ass guess and say that

Hi all, this is more of a general query but ultimately something that could be
extremely useful for users if it was implemented.
Basically I run game servers on a University Campus, our users have unlimited
bandwidth on local traffic. So playing on our servers doesn't cost em anything.
However
You're both being ridiculous. All hlds server lag/choke comes from one
source, and I have the hard evidence to prove it.

It'll be better if somehow we could provide a default local mirror
for the Steam Content files (.gcf's) so that anyone on our
University's IP range is
automically directed to our server, hence they don't download them
off the internet.
This would also save thousands of users sourcing files from
Talking about the content servers, I would like to set one on my country :).
It's a big difference when you download updates 100-200KB/s and when you do
that 1-2MB/s :)))

Well once we tried to setup a contentserver for valve. But they did require
windows servers. We wont buy licenses of M$ for only ONE service under
dozens.
There is no reason to use windows server for sumthing ordinary as content
serving. However, as long they require windoze, ppl will complain
