Anyone have any recommendations? I'm trying to keep costs to a minimum.

Google might be a better resource. Steam is usually uptight about
discussing rental servers on mailing list or in their forums.

We've been having a problem with one server, even though the server is
set to be secure, after a player joins the server decides to become
insecure, despite the server continuing to send out a heartbeat to the
master servers etc... has any one had this problem before? The startup

Well... It does take an awfully long time on our servers as well but
only when we have verify all on. Otherwise you may want to check for
other running processes as srcds uses a lot of disk i/o when it
starts.

When i start hlds alone it takes also long time.
It hangs every time when i restart server with console quit or when i start
hlds_run manually.
Then i wait 5-10Mins then the server is started.
It hangs all the time @ updating installation.
Nload don´t show any traffic at starting hlds.
I think
Possibly. Try watching something that watches disk i/o instead, though.

Make sure your hldsupdatetool is up to date, if you have an old version stil
running it could be slow. Just delete ~/.steam/ClientRegistry.blob and then run
./steam (you need the ./ so you run it from the directory the binary is in so
the update applies to the right place).

In the user's home directory there should be .steam directory (note the dot in
the beginning) - in

Good to know, but no one knows this, especially the players don't know and
suffer from bad content servers.
