I don't need to try it - thats what I use.

And it didn't lower cpu usage?
Nothing signigicant that I noticed. I'm not about to start flicking it

10 player servers don't even touch the sides on a server like that
Well it does got the cpu graphs to prove it :P
My 32 player server only shows above 1% cpu usage when the player count gets
over 12-15 (hits 60-70% by 32 tho..).

1% @ 12-15 then 60-70 @ 32 sounds very stange measuring issue?
No, Steve, it's not strange at all. The CPU usage of the server grows

No, Steve, it's not
Nice graphs, these results are similar to what I achieved on my profiling
PC.

I have seen this same issue. The latencies and CPU usage are pretty low
below 20 players but once you get above they start to increase drastically.
It has been like this since the first hlds.

Those graphs don't show a important item that is needed for comparison. That
being the map. dod_caen doesn't do as much CPU usage as dod_charlie.

Not here it doesn't. Yes it not linear but if it where 1% @ 14 players we'd
be laughing 80 or so servers per machine :D
Well, I'm hopeful the original poster will clarify what he meant by
over 1% :)

sorry, I wanted to know the exact command line you use to run hlds. Do you
use screen, halfd or any other programs to control hlds?

Does this change so much the cpu usage ?

Ok done
With or without screen, the cpu usage is near the same,
maybe some % less, it's hard to see. But not more than 10% less.

I run RedHat 7.1 on an Intel VC820 P3/933 RIMM memory and Counter-Strike
mod and have seen average 30% cpu when server is full with 24 users with
occasional peaks of 60%. The new engine has lower CPU usage but not as
good as the old days. The good news is no core dumps since 3.1.1.1c1!!
