Look for a .steam folder, it may be hiding some info
that makes it update to beta. Delete it and try
downloading everything again.

Martin makes a valid point. Would it be possible for srcds_run and/or

Linux folks first depends on the usage output(at least I do so),
Fixed the seg vault on a Debian Sarge with kernel 2.6.11-1-686-smp
Ah, btw: I first tried to start the server as usual with "-autoupdate".
This didn't work and I had to update again with "-beta linux".
Perhabs you should have mentioned that.
Anyway, good work!

should return your public IP address, not loopback).

were savy enough to work out that they needed to use the "steam" binary.

Crashed a couple of times then came up. Not what I call perfect.
Bug is still present.
n't it be safe to upgrade to a 2.6.x kernel? Last I known 2.4.21was
out-dated, and highly exploitable.

Is anyone else noticing the rather high CPU usage by the Source engine
on Opteron platforms? We had, at one time, stopped hosting Source due
to this problem. We've recently picked it back up again, however with
only one Source server per machine (as otherwise they actually fight for

Crash on startup fixed here too, I didn't test further, this is not a
production server. (Gentoo / Glibc 2.3.90 / Kernel 2.6.15-rc5 ).
