[Hornlist] Max Enders

My Max Enders compensator was probably made concurrent with the earliest Kruspe horns based on the fact that Max Enders was pretty much retired before the 20th century. Bill, the horn must postdate the earliest Kruspe compensating doubles by at least a few years, as our best sources put Max

Dear list, I am currently at a music camp in Saratoga, NY. I was in brass quintet practice yesterday, and my first valve freezes up just like that. I had oiled it earlier that day, and I vastly depleted my stock trying to get it back up to an adequate speed. It is still a bit sluggish, and I'm

Sounds like a piece of gunk found the 1st valve--possibly food if you didn't thoroughly clean your mouth before playing. I would try flushing with water. Don't wiggle the other valves--you don't want the gunk to find the other valves. You will have to flush both sides, though. Then oil thoroughly.

Sometimes the top bushing gets a smidgeon out of alignment. Try tapping the bottom screw for that valve very gently with a small mallet or hammer. TAP it; do not HIT it! Sometimes that solves the problem for a while. Paul Mansur On Tuesday, August 16, 2005, at 12:27 PM, Nicholas Hartman Ha

Nick, I’m not a specialist in the area, but I’ve been fixing up an old Conn 6D recently and I successfully did this without damaging anything. My friend, who works at an instrument repair shop, has been teaching me. As others have pointed out, you probably have some kind of gunk or corrosion

The source that gave me this same information was more of the opinion that Max Enders, as a maker, was pretty well established prior to taking over from Mueller, and probably didn't build a lot of complete instruments with his name on them after 1900. The only other Max Enders instrument I've h
