Or try the Holton 8D copy - 188. I'm no expert but I
did try one and it seemed good. Apparently, it is in
its design a faithful copy of a '60s 8D. Apparently.

I have had a chance to spend some time with Richard Burdick's new recording
of Louis-François Dauprat's trios and quartets for natural horns. It is an
amazing tour de force! The sheer virtuosity is stunning, the intonation
impeccable, the tone rich and full, and the lip trills are to die for.
Given a choice, I'd take the Yamaha 668II. The best Kruspe Horner clone on
the market today. The Hoyer is a good copy of the 8D but is just that, a
copy. It has all the old faults most notably the intonation, especially in
the
upper register. The current Conn 8D is actually a King in
If you get a good one, some of the current 8Ds play reasonably well. I
don't think I'd use the word beautiful. There are a couple of things that
bug me about them, the valves are designed for premature failure and there's no
wire in the bead of the tank-like bell. Valve linkage is shoddy
I am an amateur hornplayer, who is thinking about getting a new horn. I
am going to Germany in March for work, and I thought that it might be
fun to have a look at some horns mad eby German manufacturers while I am
there. I have been to the Alexander shop in Mainz before, but I didn't

That was my FIRST impression of the Hoyers when they first came out.
The recent ones, however are FAR superior, as the company has listened
very closely to the input of a number of young and older players alike.
I am quite sure Gerhard Meinl, the new owner of the Hoyer company would

I agree with Orlando. I've played an old and new Hoyer side by side and the
old model was not good, but the new one was a very nice playing horn.

Hello List!
I'm a horn beginner (5th year) and after beeing sick for a week, I'm trying
to get back to the horn, and it feels like I haven't been playing for
months. What is the best way to recover my playing?
Thank you very much,

I found an old Getzen horn nickle silver at my local music shop. I have no idea

I know Getzen specializes in trumpets and trombones and offers a single and

Thanks for the tip on Richard Burdick's new recording. For a similar experience
of this marvelous repertoire for natural horn, and some outstanding natural
horn playing, I suggest that you get Rick Seraphinoff's recording of French
Chamber Music for Horn and Strings. It includes
