In my own experience this problem is often the reliance on the oral cavity to produce sufficient pressure required to play in the upper register. In this case the oral cavity is too small because of all the pressure being put to bear on the facial muscles. Try supporting the air column more

On the geezers issue. I'm 63 and started playing again five years ago. I exercise everyday, maintain a good weight, get my sleep, practice 2-3 hours a day and the only problem I see is that my lips tighten every now and then and I sometimes have a problem settling in to play after a meal.

Hello, I recently viewed the Mahler symphony nr. 2 Laserdisc with Leonard Bernstein and the London Symphony Orchestra. Would any list members happen to know who the horn players are in that particular recording? It is an Edinburgh festival recording. I believe the Laserdisc recording is the same

Absolutely. There might be some confusion about which oil is which. He dropped valve oil down the tubes, and used the spindle oil on the ends. That's equivalent to sewing machine oil. I might quibble about dropping the valve oil down the tubes, which might wash the slide grease into the valves.

Actually, in my experience, the Horn has much greater inconsistencies in intonation from register to register. It¹s just that we¹re used to making THOSE adjustments and not the ones necessary to play mello in tune. That, coupled with old, poorly maintained instruments, incorrect mouthpiece choices
