[Hornlist] Cold Sores

2007-08-04 Thread Carter, Jeffrey
Hey there. Just wondering if anyone has any magic cure all's for cold sores. I get them fairly often, but usually occurring from a bitten inner cheek, so they don't interfere much with playing. This recent one, however, is just outside of where my rim sits, and to make matters worse, I have

Every time (just twice) I have seen it (never played it) the guy in the painting actually played the trumpet. That's not really a help, but it is all I got. If you haven't had a rehearsal then I would prepare to play it as written and transposed, just in case it is intended for a Bb instrument

2007-07-07 Thread Carter, Jeffrey
The piece was written to commemorate the defeat of Napoleon and his french troops by Russia, centering around the Battle of Borodino (part where we play Le Marseilles and the cannons fire back at us). It indeed has nothing to do with the United States at all. As for the political statement, I

RE: [Hornlist] Toneblob vs. Acousticoil

2007-07-03 Thread Carter, Jeffrey
The toneblob is a massive valve cover extension that is supposed to stabilize vibrations. The acousticoil is a 1 1/2 inch long piece of plastic that is rolled over on itself that you insert into a tuning slide (whichever you like, valves included). link to toneblob site http://www.hornsaplent

I would suggest something along the same lines. you can even do so without stopping your playing. Remember that you are playing the horn because you enjoy it. Too often we focus on improving things, doing exercises, etudes, clark studies, embouchure building, lip trills, lip slurs, long tone

I have recently changed horns, and the one I purchased came with one in it. I can tell you that they do make a difference. I found out that there had been one placed in the first valve slide (Bb side) in order to secure the high Bb I would suppose (not that it needed it). I can't imagine any

I think that as long as the tone does not take away from the musical message that there should 'ideally' be no preferred tone. Above all, I think that flexibility of tone color is probably much more important than devotion to any one color (ie. cleveland sound, ny sound, london sound etc). J
