Speaking of 6D's, I saw one yesterday that had a truly amazing bell ring on
it. It was obviously made by someone who did not quite understand how the
rings should be configured. Where the threads

Actually, I would call it a Kruspe variant. Some say that the C.F. Schmidt
(sans piston valve) was a design influence for this horn.

I would go so far to say that the wrap itself is absolutely not important.
It's more of the general characteristics of geyer and kruspe horns that make
the difference. The kruspe is basically a large throated nickel silver horn,
i.e. 8D, whereas the geyer wrap is of a medium/smallish bell throat,
or wouldn't a lawson alexander or paxman fall under that category?

I have come to my own conclusionsI'm writing a horn design paper with
topic "Knopf vs. Kruspe" and I'd like to use imput and evidence from the horn
community. So, if you feel so inclined to give me your theories and personal
stories or anything relating to the two wraps, please do so!
Alan:
We could call it a Geyuspe.

Well, not exactly.
I can choose straight Coke. Or straight Pepsi. Or I can blend them half &
half (or some other ratio). Or I can pour in some RC.
But with horns, it's 1 or the other, right?
If any horn maker has figured out how to blend Geyer & Kruspe, I've never
heard of it -- McCracken,
That's opening up a very difficult debate. It's kind of like asking
which is better: Coke or Pepsi. Hands down, Coke is better; but I'll be
damned if there aren't people who insist on thinking otherwise. :-)
