Your posting sure brought back some memories for me. Several years
I think there is a suite by Telemann that uses 4 horns. At least one of the a due
cori pieces by Handel has 2 horns in each cori. And along with the Hornsignal, I
am almost certain there is another Haydn symphony with 4 horns. Someone help me
here...

Dear Bill and List
This would be No 39 in G minor - like Mozart 25 it is 1st 2nd in B flat
and 3rd 4th in G.
In my days as a regular member of the Manchester Camerata, we played this

Not sure if the original poster was asking about concertos for
4 horns and orchestra or just orchestral rep, but if the full
orchestra is not so strong, I'd go for the other 3 Schumann
symphonies
I put the titles into two groups - the first were easily??? playable, the
second group were more difficult (I'm not speaking only of the horn parts but
generally)

Hi D.,
OK, I'll mention the obvious ...
R. Schumann, Concertpiece, Op. 86, for 4 horns and orchestra.
It may be a bit ambitious for community orchestra
and community orchestra horns, but it's fun to
mention it anyway.

In addition to the orchestral literature already mentioned, I like
Beethoven's Egmont Overture, just about any of the Rossini Overtures,
especially La Gazza Ladra, and Beethoven's Eroica Symphony (No. 3). One
of the orchestras I played in for a while that had some weak links here and
there,
