Hi everyone,
(apologies for cross-posting)
As part of the Open Data for Resilience Initiative (OpenDRI) (
www.opendri.org), we just recently published an opportunity for individual
organizations or consortia to implement an Open Mapping program in Uganda.
All the details are on
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to let you know about two blog posts that our team published
and that refer to HOT and other partners' work (Ausaid/DFAT, U.S. State
Department - Mapgive, USAID, KLL, GW University, ARC, etc...) and that
promote the good work that this community has been doing:

+1,
The iD-editor section should be linked within the beginner table of content
because it is only visible in the second level of menu after clicking on
detailed editing.

Hi Mikel,
Jeff and I worked on this a while ago: http://learnosm.org/en/osm-data/
that could be revamped and enhanced. There is also at least one new QGIS
plugin to get OSM data. I have not tried it yet but it would be nice to
integrate if it works well as the current default one has some issues.
Great, thanks Maning for filing the issue and triggering the merge, I had
done this pull request almost a year ago [0]. To add any extra layer, you
just have to copy paste the code and change the URL. Severin, for Yahoo, it
may just be because the URL has changed since they initially added it. I
Hi Severin,
Apparently Yahoo has shut down their maps API a while ago [0] [1]
(September 2011) so it won't come back. The page suggest to use Nokia
instead but it requires registration to use the API [2]

Hi Maning,
For field data collection, we also have used OSM Tracker which is easy to
use to record a track, mark points and take geotagged pictures (you can get
you geotagged pictures to show in JOSM) but then you do need to do some
manual processing with JOSM as the data is not directly pushed to
.
As for Case D and the other suggested keys, these are new or seem
unrelated to 3D rendering. However, I'm not sure about the exact meaning
of your suggested shape:elevation?

Hey Maning,
we recently had very good results running GeoNode workshops with bootable
usb key built using the method to build custom ubuntu live CD [1]. Ours USB
keys were built with Ubuntu Customization Kit (UCK) but there are other
tools around too. I haven't tried for OSM tools but I was
Hi all,
The OpenDRI project has been doing some work in Nepal and Sri Lanka to
trace building footprints and to enter attribute data about the buildings.
We are looking to get feedback from the tagging and HOT mailing list on the
building presets that we are using and we would like to consolidate
Hi Pierre,
if you are doing your workshop with JOSM, a short term and low-tech
solution is to use the caching feature of JOSM. As Paul mentioned, you have
to check the terms of use of the imagery you are using to make sure you are
allowed to cache it. You can find the feature in JOSM in
Looks great ! And it is going to make it a lot easier to contribute too.
I'd just like to second Maning request about having a printer-friendly
(PDF) version available on the website.
First, just to have an easy access to an offline version that can be
distributed without Internet access.
Second,
