Ok. I gave up. I wiped / and /usr and reinstalled. I went digging in the RPM database, and there was stuff in there from 2003, so my guess is that along the way something didn't upgrade quite right. I installed straight mandriva 2006 and the printer is working great again, printing and scan

Hi all,  I just migrated my CLJ2550 from the usb backend using to the HP backend using HPLIP 1.6.10, and suddenly postscript photo performance is now horribly slow, it now takes it at least 20 minutes to process a single full page photo or color pdf  that prior took 2 minutes, using the usb backend

"readline" (the module that isn't being found) is in the Python _standard_ library on Unix/Linux.  This points to an incorrect Python installation.
