I have read the SHARE presentations and Worked with the MIGRATION process in
JES2 to migrate output from one JES2 Spool to another.
I am not seeing how this works - or rather, why it is not more simple.
I may be expecting too much. I just want to do - Migrate
1. BTDT,GTS - I'm not talking ideology or abstract theory, but history.
Vendor promises are worthless when push comes to shove.
2. In the incidents I was referring to we *did* get the keys in advance;
they didn't work and the vendor failed to respond within the contractually
guarant
1. Init new volume with ICKDSF, vary online.
2. Add new volume to JES2.
3. Drain old volume.
4. IPL to stop any writing to old volume (STC).
5. When volume goes to drained, vary offline and init as scratch.

We always have issues during DR with licence keys.

We like to expose "novice" users to the DR process, it's a test of
documentation and process, not systems skills.

were dead, then have everyone else continue the test without the pulled tapes
or "dead" personnel. That made for a much more reasonable test, since in a
real disaster bad things happen.

John mentioned the Customized Offerings Driver (COD), which is the
preferred method to start from DVD in order to install and start z/OS.
For the record, there are a couple other technically viable ways to get the
job done, assuming you have an IPLable z/OS volume (or the Customized

We were looking for IBM utilities to do our migration. Currently. I am
using manual way of doing this migration uding dataset by dataset copy
from physical tape to virtual tap

We have completed the migration of one of the TEST LPARS to z/OS 2.3 the last
week and I notice the TSO/E PROFILE PREFIX settings have changed. Basically the
PREFIX value is blanked out and even after updating it, the value is not saved
across logons. I confirmed on another LPAR running 2.1

volume migration 7 times to mostly migrate our spool farm of 14 3390-27 volumes
to 7 3390-54 volumes. I still have a few volumes to go to completely replace
