Is your input file RECFM fixed or variable? If fixed, how do you determine how
much of the record is valid? Is there some reason DFSORT must be used to do
this (as opposed to REXX or some Unix command)?

If both directories can be reached from an lpar, then why not use the cp
command with a suitable wild card in the source path. Or you could tar the
source directory and pipe the output to an "untar" command that specifies the
desired destination.

Hand carry the Journal dataset (ADRDSSU dump?) to the DR site and apply it to
the CDSes after everything else is restored.

Among other things, it wastes a lot of space on a 3592 and doubles the number
of tapes and tape mounts required for each cycle of the dump class.

On z/OS 1.11, the HSM manual says a stacked dump tape can contain dumps from
both SMS and non-SMS packs. However, with STACK(99), every test case I have
run results in SMS packs first going to one 3592 tape (genned as 3590-1) and
then non-SMS packs going to a second tape. I have tried with 1,

Our practice is to keep everything until the SUPing PTF is accepted. Then both
PTFs are automatically rejected.
But if your concern is the space consumed, copy the SUPed PTF to tape (just in
case) and then reject it out of the PTS. Once you accept the applied PTF, you

The DEST field makes sense (the value matches). I will have to check but I
don't think IDTF is active on our system unless it defaults so. Nor have we
ever knowingly done anything to authorize a user access to netmail. But now I
have somewhere to start looking. Thank you.

We have a sequence of JES2 commands that run at 1600 every day to purge output

The immediate cause of the bad return codes is that neither EDIT nor MACRO are
ISREDIT commands
As others have noted, your macro (REXX or CLIST) must be in a separate member
from where you issue the EDIT command with the MACRO operand.
However, allocating SYSEXEC the way you did is also a bad i
It is a two step process:
The first is configuring the volumes on the DS6000. Are you installing a
new DS6000 and moving data from existing DASD to the new box or are you trying
to combine existing -9 volumes (and possibly unused capacity) into a single -27

The second is movin

some other functionality, such as partial release of space. But if you don't
know why the other datasets are EA then it is hard to determine whether these

Once a dataset is created, the dataclass no longer controls its attributes.
The issue is not that the datasets have the wrong dataclass. The issue is they
don't have extended addressability.
The datasets did not spring into existence by themselves. They were defined

Did you really write this or has your account been hacked? You normally don't
make gross English grammar errors or engage in for self criticism.

My mistake about after. How about during? On the TSO logon panel, if you
enter the correct passphrase, do you also need to enter the current password
when you enter a new password? I would test it but we don't have phrases
active.

I recommend building an IOCP input dataset from of the IODFs and then compare
(e.g., using SUPERC) to identify the differences and possibly build the delta
statements to combine them.
In my 1.11 version of Hardware Configuration Definition User's Guide, chapter 9

Not in our experience. We have a minimal DS6800 and have configured it with
3390-1, -2, -3, -9, and -12 volumes. It came with four FICON CHPIDs and two
controllers and every path has access to everything.

To simplify things I have deleted the lines which contain only the tail end of
comments. I have also inserted some line numbers to correspond to my comments.
Line 1 tells us that JCTJCLAS contains the address of the class. You use that
address correctly in the target of the EX instruction in l
Obviously memory didn't serve. The TMBLKSI field in the CA-1 TMC is indeed 4
bytes. But the manual says the data comes from the JFCBLKSI field in the JFCB
and that field is only 2 bytes. I wonder where CA-1 picks up the extra data
from.

What is the real issue you are trying to resolve? Unless the GDG has been
inactive, the status of the migrated datasets shouldn't matter. If one of the
datasets is recalled from ML2, it would not be part of the GDG (it is
catalogued separately) because there would be current datasets belonging
